Dangote Refinery Debunk Claims of Selling PMS at N898 Per Litre to NNPCL

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has issued a strong rebuttal to claims made by Mr. Olufemi Soneye, spokesperson for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), alleging that the refinery sells Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at N898 per litre to the NNPCL.

In a press statement released by Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Refinery, the company categorically described the claim as "misleading and mischievous," adding that the statement was designed to undermine the recent breakthrough in addressing the country’s longstanding energy challenges.

"We urge Nigerians to disregard this malicious statement and await a formal announcement on pricing from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries. This committee was appointed by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, and will commence its activities on October 1, 2024," Chiejina said.

According to the press release, the current stock of crude oil used by Dangote Refinery was purchased in dollars. It was emphasized that the refinery has been selling products to NNPCL in dollars at a significantly lower cost than the prices at which NNPCL currently imports petroleum products.

Chiejina highlighted that the refinery’s operations are positioned to ensure the availability of PMS in every local government area across Nigeria, regardless of their remoteness. "With this action, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country, regardless of their remote nature," the statement reads.

This announcement comes on the heels of Dangote Refinery’s major milestone in combating Nigeria’s fuel scarcity and ensuring energy security, a struggle that has plagued the country’s economy for the past 50 years. The refinery is committed to ensuring that high-quality petroleum products are readily available to meet local demand, potentially ending the cycles of fuel shortages that have become endemic in Nigeria.

Chiejina reaffirmed the refinery’s commitment to working towards a sustainable energy supply and providing significant savings for NNPCL in comparison to imported fuel, bringing relief to Nigerians as the economy adjusts to evolving energy policies.

The public is advised to disregard any unofficial statements and await the formal pricing announcement on October 1, 2024.
