The Adamawa State government has shifted the resumption of schools for the 2024/2025 academic session to Monday, September 30, 2024.
This decision was made in response to the alert issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) regarding impending floods in some local government areas of the state.
The circular Friday, signed by the Acting Executive Secretary, Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, Bilsan Panuel, directed the Zonal Directors, Initiating Principals and Principals to comply with the new resumption date.
The statement read: "With reference to the above subject matter, I hereby write to inform you that the First Term 2024/2025 Academic Session resumption date is now September 30, 2024." It added that the extension was "due to the anticipated flood disaster that we will be experiencing. Please adhere strictly to the above information."
While some parents commended the government for the forward-looking-thought, considering the 16th September mid-month, pocket-empty, feeding-challenging, fuel-pump-scarcity-hiking situation and the safety of their children, some private school proprietors are said to have communicated to parents #that the PPSMB notice affects the public schools only #that the school resumption remains September 16 as it is.
Commenting, a concerned citizen would simply ask, "how safe and secure, free from the projected flood, are the private schools differ from the public's and the houses where students live in?"
Social commentators observed the uniformity of the academic calendar in Adamawa state that closes the gap between public and private schools for which the Fintiri led government is commended for will be affected.
