The Bayelsa State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Grassroot Movement (BSAGM), has expressed dissatisfaction over the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri marginalization against the people of Bayelsa East Senatorial District.
The group excoriated Governor Diri neglect of the people of the east in the government in spite of resolute support for the government from formation especially his re-election.
In a statement issued on Monday by the group spokesman, Mr John Peremobowei, the group condemned the governor selected manner of relatives appointments, describing the appointments as personalization of governance to family transaction.
Since the creation of Bayelsa State, successive administrations had maintained political conglomeration across the three senatorial district in the state, but Diri administration had neglected the east from inception.
“The east is only been marginalized, and neglected in Diri administration. Alamieyeseigha, Jonathan, Sylva, and Dickson carried out fair, equal appointments, infrastructure across the state, in their administrations.
Mr John recounting unwavering support for Senator Douye Diri administration from inception, questioned what the people of the east has done to the governor to deserve such unfair treatment.
“Successive governments since 1999, had fairly and transparently distributed political appointments across the senatorial district, but the contrary is Diri's administration.
“The Governor, who was a member of Dickson government, should have emulated how the former governor maintained political power balancing structure cutting across the three senatorial district in the state.
The group commending Dickson for his leadership style of political conglomeration in appointments and infrastructure cutting across Bayelsa, acknowledged the former governor maintenance of political balancing.
“Under Senator Dickson government, the east had Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, including Commissioners for Finance, Education, Information, and other top government offices.
“It's absolutely unfortunate that the east had been undermined by Diri, running a one-sided government of Kolokuma-Opokuma, and the whole state is watching the government.
The group commending the late deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for his all-inclusive style of leadership, stated the need to have an eastern deputy governor.
“Even though our brother, the speaker is not considered, there are other competent individuals eminently qualified to be nominated for the office of the deputy governor for the remaining years of the government.
The spokesman urged the governor to respectfully consult the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR, including other stakeholders for contributions for the replacement of the late deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo of memory.
He noted that the general public should be aware of the of how the people of the east had been undermined, neglected, marginalized in a government they worked for.
