Akpe Too Ambitious, Manipulative For Deputy - Kolga Group Caution Diri

The Kolga Integrity Watch for Good Governance (KIWGG) has cautioned the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri against any possible consideration on nomination of the Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr Pereotubo Peter Akpe as Deputy Governor.

The group cautioned Governor Diri following rumoured nomination of his chief of staff for the replacement of the late deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, PhD.

In a statement issued on Friday by the group spokesman, Dr. Theophilus Aganaba, describing Dr. Pereotubo Akpe as the most manipulative and desperate politician serving in Governor Diri's administration, said he is too ambitious for the late deputy governor's replacement.

Dr. Aganaba said no genuine man of God engage in deep politics so ambitiously and desperately like Dr. Akpe, who is a proclaimed pastor in Redeemed Christian Church of God.

The group accused Mr Pereotubo Akpe of acting as Co-Governor in decision-making in the government, to the extent of spreading unfounded and mischievous stories creating misunderstanding between the governor and late deputy governor.

“If Akpe is nominated, and sworn-in as deputy governor, he will take over the government from the governor before the end of the tenure. He did it to Nestor and Ebebi,” the group said.

The group spokesman cautioning the governor to be foresighted for the late deputy governor replacement, said he should nominate a reputable service-oriented politician who will unify the government with selfless services, and total loyalty, and not a known over-ambitious politician.

The group accused the chief of staff of submitting petitions to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and other anti-corruption agencies for the arrest and prosecution of the governor over misappropriation of public funds in the last six years.

Mr Akpe who maintain a close working relationship with former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and other top members of Redeem Church of God including the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu won't hesitate in utilizing his contacts to prosecute Governor Diri.

The traumatizing fate of late DSP Alamieyesegha of blessed memory saga of arrest by the EFCC tends to be the fate of Senator Douye Diri, if Mr Peter Akpe succeeds with the planned arrest and prosecution of the governor once he is sworn-in as deputy to take over the government.

If Governor Douye Diri refuse to heed to wise counsel and caution against the nomination of his chief of staff as deputy, there will be instability in the government once Mr Peter Akpe becomes deputy governor till the governor is impeached or removed over corruption allegations.

Fact-check, there is no doubt that Mr Peter Akpe is hardworking with administrative competence, but he is too ambitious and desperate for political power to accumulate more wealth even as a multi-billion accumulated from the government in six years as deputy and chief of staff.

He manipulated late former Acting governor, Rt. Hon. Nestor Binabo, who served as governor for a month, including Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi, who sacked him over ambitiousness and desperateness for political power to amass wealth.

The group said both leaders warned the Senator representing Bayelsa West, Distinguished Senator Henry Seriake Dickson when he assumed office as governor of Bayelsa State, of Mr Peter Akpe's over ambitiuous attitude for political power, but former governor ignored the warning.

Akpe has a political track-record of over-ambitiuousness, betrayal and desperateness for political power to amass wealth for family, friends and people of Ebedebiri community.

“If Mr Peter Akpe is not satisfied as deputy chief of staff, and as chief of staff currently, including acting as co-governor in decision-making in the same government, then he will not be satisfied as deputy governor.

The group cautioning the governor, said he granted too much leverage, freedom and influence to the chief of staff, who has amassed so much wealth from the government through projects in the last six years.

“Governor Douye Diri, who is our beloved son, and as a people who want the best for his administration, we call on him to reflect deeply to choose an individual who is less ambitious with total loyalty like Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo as deputy.

“We have better individuals who are trusted, committed and dedicated from Sagbama house that will unify the government in continuation of the solid foundation laid by the late deputy governor,” the group added.
