Alhaji Ahmadu Hamman Dan-Maje, a prominent figure in the Adamawa APC, is urging the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to swiftly address the electricity shortage in the North East region to alleviate the hardship faced by its residents.
Dan-Maje, a key figure in the APC, is also urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his influence to ensure TCN promptly restores power to prevent further economic strain in the area.
The North Eastern States of Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, and Borno, serviced by the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), have been experiencing prolonged power outages due to damage to the national grid supplying electricity to the region.
Dan-Maje, who vied for the Adamawa central senatorial seat in the last election, emphasizes that as a leader, he cannot stand by while his people, and the broader North East community, suffer due to electricity shortages.
"I came all the way from Yola to Bauchi this morning for an on the spot assessment of the damage inflicted on the TCN facilities and to push for the restoration of electricity so that our people can have some respite.
"A number of businesses are going down, lives and livelihoods are incapacitated by this prolonged power outage while the economy of the north east is fast collapsing. That is why I took the gauntlet as a political leader to use my reach to push for the restoration of power for the benefit of our people.
"Again I was compelled to do so following the lethargy of our elected representatives to take the matter up despite the monumental impact of the issue on our economy," he said.
Regarding the repair progress, Dan-Maje acknowledges TCN's efforts to begin repairs on the damaged infrastructure but urges the company to increase its workforce to meet the May 27, 2024 deadline for completion.
"I'm pleased that TCN is actively tackling the issue, but based on the progress observed, the company needs to deploy more personnel to meet the deadline. We will continue to monitor the situation until the necessary steps are taken for the benefit of our people," he insists.
The politician also expresses disappointment with certain comments made by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, regarding the power tariff increase, suggesting that President Tinubu should consider replacing him due to his perceived inability to effectively manage the crucial office.
