APC Group Frowns At Governor Diri Rumoured Nomination Of Cousin Brother, Mr Peter Akpe As Deputy

The Bayelsa State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Grassroot Movement (BSAGM), has expressed dissatisfaction over the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri rumoured nomination of the Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr Pereotubo Peter Akpe as Deputy.

Governor Diri rumoured nomination of his cousin brother, Mr Akpe, who hails from Ayamasa community in Ekeremor Local Government Area, for the replacement of the departed Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has sparked public reactions on print and social media.

The rumoured nomination gathered momentum of contradicting public reactions when supporters of the chief of staff made an appeal to the governor for consideration of their boss as deputy for the replacement of his rivalry late deputy governor.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the group spokesman, Mr John Peremobowei, the group expressed disappointment over the governor's rumoured nomination, describing the nomination as deliberate actions to swivel and personalize governance of the state into a family business.

According to the spokesman, the governor whom old APC members have unanimously consented cordial working relationship and recognitive leadership, should reflect on political conglomeration for the unification of the party - as the party prepare towards a new political dispensation forthcoming in the general elections.

“It's absolutely unfortunate that the governor whose relatives are managing and overseeing sensitive offices in the prosperity government, is speculated to have nominated his cousin brother from his maternal home as deputy to be screened and sworn-in by the state assembly.

“Even as an contending opposition party at then in the state, we the old APC members admired and regarded Governor Douye Diri peaceful and all-inclusive leadership disposition, but the speculative narrative of revolving governance towards a family transaction is condemnable.

“For transparent and all-inclusive governance, we were expecting the governor to nominate an old APC member as replacement for the departed deputy governor for tranquility,” the group added.

Fortunately, no doubt the governor's chief of staff possess the requisite administrative qualities, however, inclusive governance in democratic and constitutional system must be promulgated across the political conglomeration as accommodation.

Retrospectively responding to rivalry speculations circulated on social media between the departed deputy governor and chief of staff during the first tenure, the group condemned in strong terms of Mr Akpe competitive functions with Senator Ewhrudjakpo as regards to handling administrative functions of the state government.

Mr Akpe virtually handled all major quick-win projects awarded by the government, and where bequeathed to relations, friends and supporters as compensation for their loyalty.

The group urging Senator Diri on the path of political conglomeration, and shun the rumoured nomination of his cousin brother for the late deputy governor replacement, suggested the consideration of Bayelsa East specifically Ogbia Local Government Area.

Bayelsans, who are faced with the glaring reality of the painful death of Senator Ewhrudjakpo, deserves political conglomeration for the late deputy governor's replacement from Ogbia local government area, which will consolidate the political imbalance in the general elections.

Ogbia, the local government area of Nigeria's former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who has exhibited unwavering commitment, support for Governor Douye Diri administration from inception, should be considered for the late deputy's replacement.

It is well-deserving for the people of Ogbia to be considered for the late deputy's replacement, as they have shown strong support for Senator Douye Diri prosperity administration.

The group urging Governor Diri to abort the rumoured nomination of his cousin brother from Ayamasa, said the governor should be bold enough to differentiate governance from family transactional affairs.
