Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old man, Shafiu Abdulkadir, for impersonating a police officer and extorting money from tricycle operators in Yola North Local Government Area.
Abdulkadir, a resident of Anguwan Yelwa, was apprehended on Thursday, following reports of vigilante men threatening and extorting Keke NAPEP riders around the Aliyu Mustapha Flyover and Jimeta Modern Market.
According to SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command's spokesperson, Abdulkadir was found wearing police camouflage trousers, a black shirt with 'Special Force' inscription, and boots .
Nguroje stated that the suspect's arrest was a follow-up to information regarding the activities of fake vigilante men. The suspect will face charges in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
This incident highlights the need for vigilance and swift action against impostors exploiting innocent citizens.
