The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has made a volte-face and renounced its earlier stance to participate in the forth coming local government polls in the state over gross irregularities, lack of fairness and blatant circumvention of the electoral process.
Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has fixed 13 July, 2024 for the conduct of the local government polls which prodded political parties to begin preparation ahead of the polls.
The ruling party has since commence sales of nomination forms and has released time table of activities to select candidates ahead of the general election.
The opposition APC has initially indicated intention to participate in the process and has even pegged the prices of nomination and expression of interest forms for both chairmen and councillorship positions.
But citing some critical anomalies which it said ran contrary to the provisions of the law, the party through its state secretary Dr. Raymond Chidama repudiated it’s earlier position to participate in the electoral process.
“The state executive committee of the All Progressives Congress Adamawa State Chapter had an all inclusive meeting today at the Party Secretariat and deliberated extensively on the forth coming Local Governments Election in the state.
“Advantages and disadvantages of participating in the Local Governments Election were ex-rayed and the meeting via a majority vote resolved as follows:
“The All Progressives Congress Adamawa State Chapter will not participate in the Local Governments Election due to evident lack of fairness.
“The Party will challenge the composition of the ADSIEC which is made up of PDP Card carrying members in a court of competent jurisdiction. This decision supercedes the earlier decision taken by the State Exco and Local Governments Party chairmen.
“The State Executive and Local Governments Party chairmen are mandated to enlightened Party members on this development,” Chidama said.
