Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN-Maradi) has reached another significant milestone, being ranked as the second-best university overall in Niger Republic according to the AD Scientific Index 2024 report.
This 11-year-old institution surpassed all other public and private universities in the country, positioning itself as one of the top institutions for scientific research across Africa.
The global ranking comes just three months after the AD Scientific Index recognized MAAUN as the best private university in Niger Republic.
As a research-driven institution, MAAUN has also secured the 48th spot among 384 private universities across the African continent.
This latest ranking from the Niger All Universities Rankings 2024 aligns with the vision of the university’s founder, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, who aims for MAAUN to become the leading university in Africa and beyond.
The AD Scientific Index is unique in its approach, ranking institutions based on the distribution of their scientists across various percentile brackets (top 10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%) as well as the total number of scientists affiliated with the institution.
This ranking system evaluates universities by considering the number of scientists listed in the AD Scientific Index, their placement within the top 3% globally, and their distribution across the top 10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% of researchers.
The AD Scientific Index is recognized as the most comprehensive independent ranking platform, featuring 1,610,021 scientists from 219 countries and 23,200 institutions worldwide.
In addition to highlighting a university’s areas of excellence, the ranking also sheds light on the effectiveness of an institution’s scientist recruitment strategies.
