The management of the Adamawa-based online news portal, The General News (TGNews), has finalized arrangements to honor several individuals for their substantial contributions to nation-building.
Mohammed Ismail, chairman of the information and strategy sub-committee, stated that the awards aim to acknowledge and celebrate merit, excellence, talent, dedication, and exceptional service delivery.
Ismail highlighted that the awards, categorized into four distinct segments, aim to inspire individuals to strive for excellence, recognizing their significant accomplishments.
The four award categories include:
-Excellence in Leadership Award
-Meritorious Service Award
-Dedication and Quality Service Award
-Unsung Heroes Award
The 2024 Excellence in Leadership Award recipients will include Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, former Secretary to the Federal Government of Nigeria (SGF) Boss Mustapha, former Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, and Hon. Aliyu Wakili Boya, the member representing Fufore/Song federal constituency in the House of Representatives.
The Meritorious Service Award will be conferred upon prominent figures such as Arch Bishop Panti Philibus, Sheikh Nuruddeen Khalid, HRH Kurhaye Hassan Dishon Dansanda II, Kwandi Nunguraya, HRM Daniel Shaga Ismaila - Hama Bachama, HRH Umar Sanda - Gangwari Ganye, HRH Abubakar Isa Ahmadu Emir of Mubi, and Alhaji Abubakar Murtala, Dan Lawan Mubi, and district head of Belel.
Notable personalities to receive the Dedication and Quality Service Award include Rear Admiral Jamila Malafa (Rtd.), Prof. Umar Pate, Dr. Abdullahi Dauda Belel, Barr. Chafari Kanya Shadrack, and Mal. Hamisu Idris Medugu.
Moreover, the TGNews Unsung Heroes Award will honor individuals like Ado Mohammed, a shoe cobbler, and groundnut seller Mohamad Rabiu.
Ismail emphasized that TGNews, operating for eight years, has been a trailblazer in providing factual and investigative news, establishing itself as a prominent news source in Adamawa State, the Northeast, and Nigeria at large. He added that the news portal is currently undergoing repositioning to become a multimedia powerhouse that competes globally.
The award ceremony is scheduled for January 6, 2024, at the Hall of Lelewal Hotel in Jimeta-Yola North Local Government, Adamawa State, opposite the State Polytechnic Yola (SPY).
