The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Adamawa State Command, has recorded another major breakthrough in its efforts to curb drug trafficking in Nigeria, with the arrest of a suspect transporting 270 kilograms of cannabis (Indian hemp).
Operatives of the command, under the leadership of the State Commander, CN Aliyu Abubakar, apprehended a 40-year-old man identified as Joseph Ayah with 300 blocks of cannabis concealed in a Honda vehicle. Preliminary investigations revealed that he transported the drugs from Edo State with the intention of delivering them in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
“I carried Indian hemp from Edo State to Numan. They arrested me before reaching Numan while I was waiting for Mr. Sani, who I was supplying the Indian hemp to.” Joseph admitted to the crime.
According to him: “Mr. Joseph met me in Kogi State to escort him to Bauchi, but I didn’t know what he was carrying in the car. I stepped down to buy something, then NDLEA arrested me.”
The Adamawa NDLEA Command says investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged accordingly.
