Sen Ishaku Abbo, a.k.a SIA joined Alhaji Umar Mustapha Madawaki, a.k.a Otumba of Ekiti in describing flyovers in Yola, the Adamawa state capital as diversionary, divorced from the immediate needs and lacking economic value.

Otumba would observe that better than building flyovers, concentration ought to be on building the citizenry with quality education, healthcare, skills acquisitions and social welfare.

"What is the essence of building bridges where there's no river lacking economic value, absent of tap water where there's River Benue kilometres too close? Otumba queried

SIA urged Adamawa Governor,Rh Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to redirect his energy in providing water for the people of Yola instead of spending colossal amount of taxpayers money in building flyovers targeting the state capital.

SIA made the call Tuesday, while relating with newsmen, stressing that it amounts to paradox and leadership inertia for the people of Yola who live at the bank of River Benue to be staying thirsty.

SIA called on the governor to fine tune his priorities for the good of the teeming populace who have to pay through their noses getting potable water.

“Politicians should understand that building bridges and painting them with black paint is not development. We must begin to act like modern people. We cannot continue with the archaic system,” SIA said.

SIA urged the state government to as a matter of urgency develop a blueprint that will shore up the revenue of the state, noting that Adamawa State will be in serious trouble when the manna coming from the federal top stops.

“The revenue generation in Adamawa State cannot pay our salary. What if tomorrow, problem comes and the federal government stops giving us money? We will go hungry and be amongst the poorest people in Africa. Government must begin to look inward to source for more revenue,” SIA said.

SIA, describing the hardship the citizenry is experiencing resulting from what he considered as government's failure to provide the basic necessities of life, said the situation is becoming dicey and hopeless by the day, noting that inflationary forces are pushing families to the precipice of pulverisation.

“Natural resources abound in Adamawa State, River Benue is one of them. The government should review the water distribution system.

"Currently, one push-push truck of water sells between N1,500 to N2,500 depending on the area where one lives. If you have four children you will be forced to start rationing water.

“So we are now not only rationing food but rationing water like people living in Refugee camps while we are sitting at the bank of River Benue. This is irresponsible leadership.

“Flyover is beautiful. It is urban beautification but nobody sleeps under them. Please redirect the energy with which you are building flyovers to provide water for everybody. We will clap for you if you do that,” SIA tells Fresh Air.
