Adamawa State Government Celebrates 2024 International Day of Peace, Urges Citizens to Promote Peace-Building

The Adamawa State Government, through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Peace and Security, Comrade Ahmad Lawan, has joined the global community in commemorating the 2024 International Day of Peace. The event, observed annually on September 21st, is aimed at fostering global peace and unity as declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This year’s theme,  “Cultivating the Culture of Peace,”e the importance of embedding peace as a way of life. In his statement, Comrade Lawan highlighted the significance of peace in sustaining humanity and ensuring societal development. He expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to witness another International Day of Peace and reiterated the Adamawa State Government's commitment to peace-building.

He praised the efforts of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in maintaining peace and harmony across Adamawa, positioning the state as a leader in peacekeeping within the North East region. "Under the able leadership of Governor Fintiri, Adamawa State continues to stand out in promoting peace and harmony among its law-abiding citizens," Lawan remarked.

Comrade Lawan further stressed the importance of collective efforts in fostering peace, urging citizens to actively contribute to peace-building in their own ways. He called on residents to support the government and security agencies in ensuring the safety and security of lives and properties across the state.

"As we celebrate this day, I encourage everyone to become peace ambassadors in their communities. From education and social justice to environmental advocacy, there are many ways we can work together to cultivate a lasting culture of peace," he said.

Lawan concluded by emphasizing that peace is the bedrock of all development and called on all stakeholders to continue investing in peace-building efforts for a more prosperous future.
