The President, MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo has charged lecturers against frustrating their students so as to build their future.
Prof. Gwazo gave the charge on Thursday during a dinner organized in honor of Professor Saleh Garba Ngaski, who was promoted to the full rank of professor of Nursing by the Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano.
The dinner was organized by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) in collaboration with Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) and Department of Nursing Sciences, BUK.
He said there was a need for academics to change their attitudes and mentality in dealing with their students by encouraging the students to enable them to succeed in their studies.
“It’s necessary for academics to change their attitudes because the student you frustrate today can be President of the country tomorrow.
“If you frustrate a student and in future he becomes someone in the society, he will definitely consider you as an enemy.
“I learnt that his students contributed about N800,000 to celebrate Prof. Saleh Garba Ngaski, so if the celebrant has not been good, nobody will come here to celebrate him, let alone contribute money for the program,”Prof. Gwarzo said.
He, therefore, called on academics and all other people to always be good in their dealings with others, noting that having good character is very important.
Earlier in his opening remark, the NMCN Registrar, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, who was a classmate of the celebrant at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, commended Prof. Ngaski for his immense contribution to the development of Nursing education, especially in the northern part of the country.
“Prof. Ngaski has made a lot of sacrifice. He should be commended for his openness and positive attitude of promoting Nursing profession in the northern part of the country and Nigeria at large,” he said.
The NMCN Registrar who described Prof. Ngaski as icon of nursing profession not only in BUK but in Nigeria as a whole, said the celebrant was one of those who fought and made sure that the Department of Nursing at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria became a reality.
The President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, in his remark, described nursing as one of the best professions in the world in view of its contribution in the promotion of human health
He congratulated the celebrant for achieving the milestone.
In his speech, the celebrant lauded the organizers of the event as well as all those who contributed in one way or the other to ensure the success of the program.
He specifically thanked Prof. Gwarzo for hosting and sponsoring the entire program while commending him for making a huge investment in nursing education in the country.
