Ibrahim Traore, Interim Burkina Faso President |
The government of Burkina Faso said it will send grain to its neighbor Niger, as reported by Radio Omega.
A statement issued by the country's Ministry of Business Development on Friday said that millet, maize and sorghum, among others, will be sent to Niger.
This decision comes after Economic Community of West-african States imposed trade and economic sanctions on Niger following the coup that overthrew the government of President Mohamed Bazoum at the end of July.
Although Burkina Faso is a member of ECOWAS, it has not followed the instructions of the organization to develop the economy of West Africa because it is also under the sanctions of the coup.
The statement also called on traders who are interested in transporting the goods to contact the appropriate authorities to deliver the goods to Niger.
Burkina Faso, Mali, and Guinea, all members of ECOWAS, which were suspended due to the coup, announced that they will support Niger's government forces if they are attacked by the group or foreign forces.
